Step 1: To disable Gutenberg in WordPress easily, firstly we’re going to use the Classic editor that is developed and maintained by the Core contributors of WordPress.

Step 2: Now the very first thing you need to do is install the Classic Editor Plugin. To install the plugin go to your WordPress Dashboard, click on Plugin » Add New. Search the classic editor. Install and activate the plugin.

Step 3: After activation of the Classic editor plugin you’ll have an option to keep both Gutenberg and the Classic editor at the same time. You can configure this in the plugin’s settings. To do this action you need to go to your WordPress Dashboard. Now click on the Settings » Writing option. 

Step 4: Now look at the page, here is an option to do this action under “Classic editor settings”. Here you have to choose “Replace the Gutenberg editor with the Classic editor” option to disable Gutenberg in WordPress. Now you must click on the Save Changes button to store your settings to save the changes.

Step 5: Now you can create new posts by using Classic editor instead of Gutenberg, though you just disabled it. You will also be able to edit older articles using the classic editor. To edit older articles, simply go to Posts » All Posts page and you’ll see an ‘Edit (Classic)’ link below posts.

Here it is! You’ve just disabled Gutenberg in WordPress with the Classic editor. Now try to do that with method number 2.  

Use the Classic Editor plugin with the Disable Gutenberg plugin. 

This is the second method of disabling Gutenberg in WordPress. If you want to disable Gutenberg only for specific rules and post type, then you may choose this method.

Step 1: Firstly, you need to install the Disable Gutenberg plugin. To install the plugin go to your WordPress Dashboard, click on Plugin » Add New. Search the Disable Gutenberg plugin. Install and activate the plugin.

Step 2: After activation of the plugin, you need to go to the Settings » Disable Gutenberg page to configure plugin settings. Naturally, the plugin will disable Gutenberg wherever for all users on your site. However, in the event that you need to restrict it to certain user roles and post types, at that point, you have to uncheck the ‘Complete Disable’ option.
