Safely Update Your WordPress Website Manually

There are two ways of Updating the WordPress Website. One is the built-in process, it is called the automatic process also. The other one is the manual process. Today I’m going to share with you how to safely Update your WordPress Website manually. Without wasting our time let’s do it. 

This is the critical method of Updating WordPress into the latest version. You have to use the FTP to upload WordPress manually. It needs to use the manual process if the built-in process of updating WordPress doesn’t work.

Downloading Latest Version Of WordPress

Step 1: The first step that you will have to download the latest version of WordPress. To download the latest version of WordPress go to the WordPress Download Page, and click on the download button to have it. WordPress will be downloaded in a zip file. After finishing the zip file, you will have to extract the file. This folder contains all the WordPress files that you require for the update.

Step 2: Here, you need to open your FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client and connect to your WordPress Website. After connecting, you will have to go to the newly downloaded WordPress file that you extracted earlier.

Step 3: Now, go to your website’s root folder which in the remote files column. The folder name could be the public_html or named after the domain name of your website. If you look inside this folder, you will see all of your WordPress files and folders.  

Uploading New WordPress Files

Step 4: Now go to the WordPress folder on your computer. Select all the files inside this folder, then right-click to select the upload. By clicking the UPLOAD your FTP client will start the uploading WordPress files on your computer to your website.

Step 5: Though your website already has the older version of these files with the same name, it will ask you what do you want to do with those files. Here, you have to choose the “OVERWRITE” and also check the next to “Always use this action”.Now click on okay for moving forward. 

Step 6: This process will ensure that all WordPress files on your website are replaced by the newer version of the WordPress file. Wait some moment for finishing the upload. Isn’t it easy enough? 

Step 7: After finishing the upload process of the newer version of WordPress files, you have to go to the admin area of your WordPress Website. Sometimes, the newer version of WordPress may also need to update again, that’s why this step is necessary.

Here, you will have a page mentioning that database update is required. You just have to click on the ‘Update WordPress Database’ button to continue.

So, that’s all! Congratulation! You’ve just safely updated your WordPress Website manually! 

After Process of Updating WordPress Manually

After upgrading WordPress on your website, you must have to make sure that everything is going well fluently as you are expecting. To ensure that, visit your website in a new browser window and check the settings in the WordPress admin area.
